our roots

Crooked Brewing started when Steve Dawson and Andrew Evans, the founders of Leeds brewing school ‘Learn to Brew’ met York businessmen Mark Field-Gibson and Hudson Aschmann. After lots of late nights planning and long weekends setting up the brewery at the old RAF base at Church Fenton, their beers soon developed a strong following in both cities.

At Learn to Brew we were teaching people the basics of brewing at home. Then a few people we had taught went onto work in the beer industry and set up their own breweries. So we thought why aren’t we doing that?

We’ve built the business organically, buying kit as and when we could, expanding and learning every step of the way.

We’ve had good support from a lot of local bars and breweries in both Leeds and York plus good feedback from the people who drink in them so we are always setting ourselves the goal of learning and improving and giving people beers they will want to drink
